Who doesn't love a plump, juicy and sugary medjool date?

However are these delicious snacks alkaline? Do they have a positive, alklaizing effect within the body?

The answer is.... Mostly Yes

Dr Sebi included dates in his list of alkaline forming herbs, however he was careful to note that they should be consumed in moderation due to their high sugar content.

Over the last few decades, modern cultivation techniques and selective breeding have increased sugar content of medjool dates by 15–20%.

Therefore, to counteract the excessive sugar content of modern dates I would recommend consuming them along side warm, alkaline water, or even a ginger tea. This will not only balance out the dates but will also aide in digestion and promote more hydration within the body.

Remember, hydration is KEY and sugar is dehydrating! So always consume dried fruits with warm water to rebalance them to a more natural state.

Here are some benefits of dates:

  • Energy Boost: High in natural sugars for quick energy.
  • Rich in Nutrients: Packed with vitamins (B6, K) and minerals (iron, potassium).
  • Digestive Health: High in fiber to support digestion.
  • Heart Health: High in potassium and magnesium to help regulate blood pressure.
  • Bone Strength: Contains calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium.
  • Antioxidants: Protect against free radicals with flavonoids, carotenoids, and phenolic acid.
  • Brain Health: May improve memory and learning.
  • So in summary, yes Dates are a healthy, nutritious and alkalizing snack that can provide you with an abundance of energy, yet be sure to consume them in a concious manor.
