Sea Moss - Wild Harvested

Eucheuma cottonii, commonly known as “sea bird’s nest” or “sea moss,” is a nutrient-rich marine algae primarily harvested in the warm, tropical waters of Southeast Asia. This seaweed is closely related to irish sea moss (Chondrus crispus) and is prized for its dense nutritional profile and natural gelling properties, which have made it a popular ingredient in health, wellness, and culinary practices.

Eucheuma cottonii is packed with essential minerals and vitamins, including calcium, magnesium, potassium, and vitamins A, C, and B-complex. It’s especially valued for its high fiber and collagen content, which can support skin health, aid digestion, and promote joint health. Like sea moss, Eucheuma cottonii is often used to make a gel that can be eaten alone or added to smoothies, soups, and desserts, or applied to the skin for its hydrating benefits.

Sea Moss Gel Recipe

Sea Moss Gel Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 100 grams dried Eucheuma cottonii (sea moss)
  • Fresh/Purified Water
  • Optional: Freshly Squeezed Lime/Lemon Juice

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the Sea Moss:
Rinse the dried sea moss thoroughly under cold running water to remove any debris or salt.
  2. Soak the Sea Moss:
Place the rinsed sea moss in a bowl and cover it well with water. Allow it to soak for 4-24 hours at room temperature. The sea moss will expand and soften significantly. The water can be drained and replaced during the soaking period if desired.
  3. Drain and Rinse Again:
After soaking, drain the sea moss using a seive and gently rinse it once more
  4. Blend the Sea Moss:
In a blender, add the soaked sea moss and blend. You can add the optional lime or lemon juice at this stage for a more palatable gel.
  5. Adjust Consistency:
If the gel is too thick, you can add more water, a little at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.
  6. Store the Gel:
Pour the sea moss gel into a clean, airtight container and refrigerate. The gel will thicken as it cools and can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, although freshly made Sea Moss is much more palatable.

How to use Sea Moss Gel?

Sea Mos Gel can be used in many different ways. It can be used in cooking by adding to dishes such as soups. I recommend taking Sea Moss Gel straight from the jar, either on an empty stomach or with a light meal. Consume 2-3 tablespoons per day.

Wild-Crafting

Due to the explosion in popularity of Sea Moss, many producers have turned to producing farmed Sea Moss. Whilst still beneficial, the nutritional and energetic complex of farmed products pale in comparison to their wild counterparts. Our Sea Moss is sourced from a small fishing village off of the South Vietnamese coastline, where locals benefit greatly from the ability to collect and sell this beautiful, healing plant.
